hempcrete repair to listed house

2013 Cambridgeshire

hempcrete contractor

The cement render had been taken off 3 panels of the existing listed house.

The oak frame had been repaired and what was left was a mish mash of various surfaces including timber, earth daub, stone etc.

Removing the render, and the loose material behind it, had left an average void of 125mm on the bottom panel, 65mm on the middle panel and 200mm on the top panel.

An insulating material was needed that could fill all these voids whilst remaining breathable and able to take a lime render.

Hempcrete was the perfect choice.

This project was before hempcrete spray machines were available in the UK so I invented the hempcrete daub method to apply a thin coat of hempcrete to the middle panel.

Today I would use my spray machine, unless it was thought that the historic background was too friable to support the hempcrete.

There were 3 cubic metres of hempcrete used. The labour and materials including the split hazel lath work came to £2,500.00

I later returned to render the hempcrete.
