Clay/straw plaster was used for some of the basecoats to match with existing historic basecoats.
Fine lime putty plaster was used over the top, as they had done when the house was built.
Some of the rooms that had 3 external walls had an insulating lime plaster basecoat of around 50mm thick which has worked extremely well- better than expected.
Clay basecoat going on. The wall has been painted with clay slip, whilst still damp the basecoat of 1 part powdered clay : 3 parts 0-3mm sharp sand is applied (quantities are volumes)
The basecoat is applied quite stiff with plenty of compression- a wooden float with two hands on the handle is a good technique.

This room had insulating lime plaster basecoat- lime plaster with perlite aggregate instead of sand
raw lime plaster always looks beautiful next to timber
the listed property
a mish mash of backgrounds is always tricky
scrim tape was not used for the board joins, instead a very fibrous lime plaster was applied tightly over the joins, i find it easier and that it works better
