I was sceptical about pre-fabricated hempcrete panels at first but they proved incredibly easy to manufacture and very cost effective.

Oscar Cooper, who was the builder for the project came into HGMatthew’s and built us the structural cassettes.

He first designed and built an impressive jig to manufacture them on. He built all the cassettes in 10 days by himself. I have been singing his praises ever since.

I then fitted all the electrical conduit and my team at HGMatthew’s and I cast the hempcrete, which only took 4 days. On site the panels were up in 5 days.

In 20 days of work the structural frame, 35 cubic metres of hempcrete, all electrical first fix and the finish surface were complete, constructed and dry.

Although I don’t think I could live with the raw hempcrete it does create a very soft light and an incredibly soft acoustic, its as though the room is giving you great big hug. I was absolutely blown away when I first visited the finished build.
