This project was built by my good friends and talented craftspeople Midlands Heritage Builders. You can find their facebook page here I highly recommend them.

My role in this project was mainly as designer and manufacturer.

The building was designed by local architects who produced floor plans and elevations. I then designed the construction system and how it all fits together.

I produced the detailed construction drawings and developed the giant hempcrete blocks and pre-cast lintels especially for this project.

I manufactured the blocks with my team at HGMatthews brickyard.

As well as design work I also lime plastered the blocks internally, you can see this work in my gallery here.

Although this building was clad, essentially the blocks can just be lime or clay plastered internally and rendered in lime externally.

The material cost of the blocks plus the mortar was £110/sqm with labour coming in at between £30-£40/sqm.
